STFC advisory body and peer review panel vacancies 2024

The advisory bodies and peer review panels of the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) provide advice and guidance to aid our strategic direction and support our decision-making processes.

Advisory members have the opportunity to:

  • influence STFC’s strategy, policies, and funding decisions
  • guide STFC to develop the societal impact of our investments and support our research and innovation communities
  • expand their professional networks
  • explore a wide range of challenges related to investment in UK science and engineering
  • influence research culture in the UK and abroad

Peer review members have the opportunity to:

  • gain an understanding of the peer review process
  • assess and make recommendations to the STFC executive on all research grant applications
  • provide clear concise feedback to applicants
  • advise the Science Board (PPAN) and the STFC executive as required on all issues relating to research grants

NERC Science Committee: member vacancies

The Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) invites applications from across the NERC science remit to join its Science Committee. This is a great opportunity to support an excellent and sustainable UK environmental science community.

You will work collegiately to offer advice and recommendations to Council and NERC Head Office on current and future funding priorities and new NERC investment.

You will be supported in this role by the Chair and current members in developing your expertise and experience as a committee member.

The Chair of the Medical Research Council (MRC) Molecular and Cellular Medicine Board (MCMB) will:

  • ensure the delivery of MRC’s scientific strategy through funding decisions
  • work with MRC staff to develop MCMB’s strategy and maximise opportunities for the UK research community
  • join MRC’s strategy and major investments boards to contribute to the development of MRC’s overarching strategy
  • provide scientific oversight and direction to MRC’s units and initiatives

Board chairs are normally appointed for four-year terms, and the new chair’s appointment will start on 1 April 2025.


NERC Cruise Programme Review Group: member vacancies

The Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) Cruise Programme Review Group (CPRG) exists to:

NERC is looking for people with experience and expertise in the use of marine facilities to:

  • represent the views of the marine science community

Please note this is not a salaried position, although reasonable travel and subsistence expenses will be paid in accordance with the UKRI travel, subsistence and expenses policy.

UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) invites applications to join its:

  • Advisory Group for Digital Research Infrastructure (AGD)
  • Infrastructure Advisory Committee (IAC)

The AGD advises UKRI’s Executive Committee and UKRI Board on the delivery of UKRI’s Digital Research Infrastructure strategy and on prioritising projects for the pan-UKRI DRI programme portfolio, developed by UKRI’s Digital Research Infrastructure Committee.

The IAC advises UKRI’s Executive Committee and UKRI Board on prioritising projects for the pan-UKRI research and innovation infrastructure portfolio, funded through the Infrastructure Fund.

The remit and role of the IAC and AGD are distinct but complementary. Both are chaired by the UKRI Champion for Infrastructure Professor Mark Thomson.

We need expert advice from the community to:

  • understand the capability required for future marine research
  • develop a compelling case for the infrastructure needed

The FMRI programme aims to develop the NERC strategic investment to deliver that capability.

This is a unique opportunity to be involved in shaping the next generation of large-scale research infrastructure for UK marine science.

The UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) Talent Peer Review College (PRC) will support the Future Leaders Fellowships, Innovation Scholars and future UKRI collective talent initiatives.
